Texas journal 2: South Padre Island

The first day of our vacation in Texas was rainy and for the second day, the forecast was even worse: wash out. So we decided to leave the Port Aransas area and to drive down to South Padre Island. It was not easy to get there because of the heavy downpours

On South Padre, we had surprisingly no problems to find for a reasonable price a room at a beachside hotel with view over the ocean. In such a beautiful place, even the rain becomes bearable.

After the rain cleared, we enjoyed horseback riding at the beach and parasailing.

Glad you liked you trip to South Padre. Hurricanes are never good, but the good news is they can create excellent opportunities for vacationers as it sounds like you benefited from.

Others, should take your lead as this is a really good time to go.
All Texans know South Padre is great place to vacation so if you want to help the local economy: take a vacation here and enjoy good food, fishing and good friends.

Best,

You are right, South Padre is a great place for a vacation. However, we have been there two weeks before Dolly hit. Neither rain nor the availability of rooms was therefore related to the hurricane. As you are an expert, I'm asking you - what is the best time to go? July can be quite rainy as we experienced it.
