Tips needed for Texas vacation

Hello, all Texas lovers out there: We are traveling this summer to Texas - simply because we haven't been there, yet. I heard, Texas has lovely beaches. I also heard San Antonio and Austin are a "must stop". I do have travel books, but I would like to hear from people, who have been there what they liked most. We are a family of four with two teenage sons. They love sports and adventures. My husband and I like sightseeing, nature, history and good food. Tips concerning activities, lodging and food, nature and so forth are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

San Antono is awesome. Great history (Alamo, Mission San Jose and the other historic churches), the San Antonio RIverwalk; be sure to take an aerial tour of downtown and the Texas Hill Country with the friendly folks at Alamo Helicopter TOurs. When you land head for the greatest homecooking around at Bud Jones Restaurant on SW Military. Don't forget to head North to Fredericksburg -visit the herb farm...and see the bat cave near Alamo SPrings Cafe. Head to New Braunfels - your boys will love this- for some good ol' tubing down the guadalupe river. Then pamper yourself at The Hyatt Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop (east of Austin). There is lots to do!!!

Thank you for the great tips. It sounds like that San Antonio offers more than Austin ?

I heard that Texas has one of the largest waterparks in the country. Is it worth a trip?

Hi, I am from Texas. Yes, definitely go to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels -- they have 2 sites now and shuttle you between them. It is a lot of fun and you need a full day or two to experience the full waterpark. It is so huge and it will be crowded, so you'll be waiting in line for some things.

Have fun!
